About the Author

Hi, I'm Susan Montgomery.

I'm a children's author and illustrator who loves creating stories inspired by real experiences, local places, animals, and everyday moments of wonder. My books celebrate curiosity, kindness, creativity, and the connections that help communities thrive.

My creative journey began in an unexpected way during the COVID-19 pandemic. What started as learning to play the ukulele soon opened the door to writing and illustrating children's books. Since then, storytelling has become an important part of my life.

I live with chronic pain, which has taught me to slow down, pay attention, and appreciate the small moments that often inspire my work. Creativity has become both a source of joy and a way of finding meaning on difficult days.

As both an author and illustrator, I enjoy bringing stories to life from the first spark of an idea to the final artwork on the page. In addition to creating my own books, I also illustrate children's books for other authors and enjoy helping first-time authors navigate the self-publishing process. It's incredibly rewarding to share what I've learned, answer questions, and encourage writers as they take the exciting step of publishing their first book. 

When I'm not writing or drawing, you'll often find me visiting local libraries and community events, observing nature, or spending time with my tuxedo cat, Tracey.

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education from Bowling Green State University and live in Bowling Green, Ohio.
