About the Author

Hi, I'm Susan Montgomery.

I'm an author and illustrator who loves creating stories inspired by animals, nature, and the everyday moments that invite us to slow down and notice the world around us. My work includes children's books and nonfiction, and I'm always curious about where the next story might lead. Whether I'm writing, illustrating, or simply observing the world around me, I'm drawn to curiosity and the beauty found in ordinary life.

I have always been drawn to creativity and the arts, but my publishing journey began during the Covid-19 pandemic. What started with learning to play the ukulele soon opened the door to writing and illustrating children's books. 

Living with chronic pain has taught me to slow down, notice the details around me, and appreciate small moments that might otherwise be overlooked. Creativity has become both a source of joy and a way of finding meaning on difficult days, and those ideas often find their way into my writing and artwork.

As both an author and illustrator, I enjoy being involved in every part of the creative process, from the first spark of an idea to the words, sketches, and finished artwork that bring it to life.

When I'm not writing or drawing, you'll often find me visiting local libraries and community events when I’m able, observing nature, exploring interesting places (real or imagined), or spending time with my tuxedo cat, Tracey.

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education from Bowling Green State University and live in Bowling Green, Ohio.
